The Chakwal district borders by the districts of Rawalpindi and Attock in the north, district Jhelum in the east, district Khushab in the south and district Mianwali in the west. Chakwal city is situated in plateau range of northern Punjab.

The city had a population of 80508 persons in year 1998 as per censes report with a growth rate of 3.66%. Due to urbanization, with this growth rate, the town is expected to have a present (2006) population of 107,332 persons and will grow to 153,760 persons in year 2,016 and 220,270 in the year 2026.
