Existing
Situation:
In present scenario, most of the areas are un-served
and heaps of solid waste accumulate in these areas
and only removed when the tolerance level of
inhabitants of the area exceeds. In Vehari the
disposal of solid waste is done in the form of open
dumps along Khanewal Road and open spaces, creating
total in-sanitary & unhygienic conditions, degrading
the environment of the city, emitting obnoxious
smells and providing breeding for mosquitoes and
flies.
Description of Sub Project:
The system of solid waste management has been
designed to fill up the supply demand gap by the
provision of required machinery and equipment along
with development of sanitary landfill over 10-acres
of land. Upon completion of the project, the present
efficiency of 58% of solid waste management will be
raised to 92%; the entire city will have cleaner
look with improved environment.
The storage and collection of solid wastes is
planned to be split up in two stages, i.e., primary
and secondary. In the primary stage, storage will be
in the individual premises and the wastes collected
from there will be transferred to communal storage
units on the streets by means of hand carts or
manually.
In the secondary stage, communal storage units will
be served by motor vehicles and the wastes shifted
to the disposal site.
Sub Project Benefits:
The completion of the project will result in the
following benefits:
• Improvement in the environment of the
city.
• The commercial activities and business
in the city will be improved as people feel ease in
reaching streets.
• Public mental tension, frustration
will be minimized.
• The city will have a better look.
• Communicable diseases will be
decreased and odour problem will be minimized.
